When Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Ricky “Hitman” Hatton collide on May 2, Saturday (Sunday morning here in the Philippines) at MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA for the latter’s Ring Magazine and IBO World Junior Welterweight titles, the superbout will be dubbed as “The Battle of East and West.” Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said that it’s a takeoff on Rudyard Kipling’s poem titled “The Ballad of East and West” where you can find this line, “When two strong men stand face to face, tho’ they come from the ends of the earth”. The title of the bout is very fitting isn’t it? Two great warriors from each side of the world will meet at the boxing ring to settle once and for all who is the best at their division.

A ceremonial first pitch is a ritual in baseball where the guest of honor stands in the pitcher’s mound and throws a baseball to a catcher in the home plate. This signifies the start of the game. Manny Pacquiao did just that before the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres game yesterday. Although Pacman looked like a golfer or billiards player with his black and white outfit, his pitch to Cy Young Awardee Tim Lincecum (who is half-Filipino) was pretty decent.

Last week, Arwin invited me to beat his brute. Thinking that it’s just one of those online games that will make a zombie out of you, I disregarded it.

I don’t want to stay awake in the wee hours of the

morning trying to level characters up or build an empire or whatever. Heck, I have a thousand Mafia Wars invitation on my Facebok right now but I just snub them. Then last night, I visited Marghil Macuha’s blog inviting readers to challenge his brute. I was thinking, “Hey, here’s an SEO guru right here posting about this game. Subukan ko kaya?” I visited wikipedia but couldn’t find an entry for mybrute. I eventually gave in to my curiosity and created my own brute.

Mybrute is a Flash game created by motion-twin.com where two fighters (or brutes) battle it out in an arena. However, the users can’t control their brutes during the actual fight. You just sit back and cheer for your brute. It’s almost like a virtual cockfight. After registering, you are given 6 fights. Then 3 fights for each day after that. I just registered last night and my brute went through 9 matches winning 7 of that. Not bad eh? I’m now at level 3 with 2 pupils.

NOTE: I’m making a series of blogs narrating the events last year that led to our wedding on December 22, 2007. I’m making this to share to others and for me and my wife to always remember how we became hitched to each other. This is the eleventh blog in the series.

At the entrance to the reception, we put a signature frame for guests to sign on and leave us their message. It was made of tarpaulin and was made-to-order by some of our office mates for us as a gift.

Aside from having framed in a box the items we used during the wedding ceremony and at the reception, we also have the signature frame enclosed in glass.

In a recent Got Milk? print advertising campaign, the mutant Wolverine (portrayed by Hugh Jackman) is featured showing off his adamantium-covered claws with a milk mustache.

Wolverine is portrayed in the comic books and movies as a chain-smoking, aggressive tough guy that’s why I find the ad ironic. An advertisement for Marlboro or Budweiser fits him better. But well, that helped built up the hype for the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie even more so it’s definitely good for them.

Wolverine is not the first superhero to be featured in a Got Milk? advertisement. Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Hulk and the Fantastic Four have worn a milk mustache too. Scroll down for their spots.

When I reported to the office this afternoon after a week of field work, I saw Ian holding a pirated DVD copy of the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie. I immediately commented that it was an unfinished copy leaked to the internet. He mentioned that’s why there are sequences in the film where the characters and background have no special effects yet. It looks rough too.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is set to open here in the Philippines on April 30. The movie is a prequel to the X-Men Trilogy. Meaning, the events in this movie are set way back before Logan became Wolverine. Hugh Jackman reprises his role as the mutant with adamantium-coated bones and claws. Judging from the success of the previous three films, this is another blockbuster in the making. The movie leakage will not prevent it from doing so.
