After bagging his 1st NBA MVP Award this season, Lebron James rightfully added the prestigious 2009 ESPY Awards Best NBA Player category to his trophy case. The ESPY (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) Awards AKA ESPYs is an annual sports event created by TV network ESPN honoring various individuals and teams for their achievements.
However, Lebron is a no-show at the 17th ESPY Awards ceremony held Wednesday night at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California hosted by Samuel L. Jackson. Kobe Bryant who battled it out with Lebron for the award was present with his hot wife Vanessa Laine and Los Angeles Lakers teammates to receive the award for the Best Team category.
Kobe was also nominated for the Best Championship Performance Award for leading the LA Lakers to its 15th NBA title but lost out to Olympic champion swimmer Michael Phelps’ record breaking performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The two NBA superstars were also pitted against each other in the Best Male Athlete Award but the honor also went to Phelps. That ended a five-year winning streak for golfer Tiger Woods.
Here’s a video recap of the 2009 ESPY Awards night:
The show will be televised on ESPN and ESPN HD on Sunday, July 19 starting at 9 PM Eastern Time (Monday here in the Philippines).

to be honest i just know their names but i dont know who they are. i have a basketbolista height but i dont play basketball. i played before, stopped and never played again until the skill went dead. i’d rather play archery even if i got bruises because of wrongly position armed when the string is released. sakit din nun. nagvaviolet ang arm.

Oo nga, pag matangkad ka, iisipin agad na basketball player ka. DI rin naman ako naglalaro. Spectator lang ako. Wow archery? di pa ako nakahawak ng tunay na bow and arrow.
