How to Know If Your Site is Linking to a Bad Neighborhood

Category: How To

This web site has been sent to Hell by Google last August 11. Not really the actual “Hell” but to Google’s supplemental index. In other words, this site was penalized by Google. Because of the penalty, the posts where I used to rank high are not appearing anymore in the Google SERPs (search-engine results page).

How I Reached the Top of the World Then Fell Down to Earth

Category: Personal

I have been blogging for almost two years now. My first motivation was really to share to others random thoughts culled from the deep recesses of my existence. But there came a point where I decided to monetize my blogs. Sa hirap ng buhay ngayon, kailangan may extra income. I buy and sell NBA trading cards online but I don’t make much as I’m also a collector and what I earned, I buy for my own collections.

So this February, I invested in a new domain and started making SEO posts. However, I still mixed it with posts of my personal stuffs like my wedding chronicles series and my action figures. After 5 months, I made my first Google Adsense $100. Then on August 9, Sunday, I made a total of $212.16 from Google Adsense, Infolinks and Chitika. Wooo! Ang saya-saya! Feeling ko, nasa top of the world ako!

The Day I Made $172.19 from Google Adsense!

Category: Personal

I can’t believe I was able to pull this off.

It was at 9:00 AM of August 9, a Sunday when I logged-in to check this web site. I was shocked when I realized that a steady rate of 50 visitors are coming to this site per minute! On a normal day, I would be lucky if I got 50 visitors in 1 hour but this day is not a normal day. In fact, I expected a spike in traffic for this day but not as high as this. At the end of the day, 43,026 unique visitors have viewed this site breaking my previous record-high of 6,181 by a mile. That’s an increase of 700% right there. I also made it to number 1 of TopBlogs Philippines. Not just in the Personal Category but in the entire TopBlogs list. Considering that they are tracking more than 4,500 pinoy sites, this is no small feat. I stayed there for a day and a half. :-D

Why is There a Missing Space on My Hard Disk?

Category: Computers

When I conducted my summer training for teachers, one of the most prevalent questions to me was regarding the “missing” hard disk space.

missing hard disk space

They kept asking why is it that when you check the storage capacity of a hard disk in Windows Explorer, it’s not exactly as what it is stated even if the hard disk is still new?

At the right is an image of my laptop’s hard disk space. It is supposed to be 40 GB (gigabytes) but why is it only showing 37.2 GB? (Click on the image to make it larger)

Where’s the “missing” 2.8 GB?

The answer lies in the way disk space is being reported. You see, hard disk manufacturers (humans) reports the data in decimal number system while computers in binary. In a decimal system, numbers are counted from 0-9 and expressed as powers of ten. In a binary system, there are only two numbers, 0 and 1 and expressed as powers of two. The prefix BI means two. Computers can only crunch zeros and ones.

Mcdonald’s Happy Meal Toys | Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

Category: Action Figures

I have the complete set of McDonald’s Happy Meal toys for Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs but I have not seen the movie yet. Ironic isn’t it?

My sister Bona who is a die-hard fanatic of the series (check her blog’s site’s URL) keeps asking me if I have seen it already. When I told her that I was not able to catch it in the cinema, she said that I should not watch it in a pirated CD/DVD either and wait for the home video release so I’ll appreciate the movie better. Haha, oo na, sige na.

Anyway, I’m glad that there’s already a McDonald’s branch here in Cotabato City because I was getting tired of those Jollibee Kids Meal cheapos. Talagang anlaki ng kaibahan sa quality ng toys nila. My pregnant wife also accompanied me that time when I selected Sid, Manny and Diego.

Bakit Mahilig sa Saging ang Unggoy?

Category: Humor
