Our boy was supposed to see the light of the world this November 5. But he surprised us last October 24 when at 8:00 PM, clear fluid was slowly trickling from my wife every 5 minutes; sign that her amniotic fluid was about to burst. Meaning, she was about to give birth within 24 hours.
With my in-laws, we immediately ferried her to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center here in Cotabato City. Unfortunately, her ob-gyne Dr. Yap is out of town so it was Dr. Lao who attended to my wife. Wendy’s health condition would not allow her a normal delivery so we immediately arranged for cesarean section (CS) operation.
Just 13 minutes after the operation started, our baby boy was scooped out of Wendy’s womb at 11:33 PM.
Here he is. I’m proud to introduce to the world my son, our first child, Arkin Wade Hilario!
He arrived 10 days earlier than scheduled. Our plan of having all our children be born on a November (since Wendy and I were born on the 19th and 20th respectively) is dead. No more only one big and grandiose celebration every November in our household.
But what the heck, to hell with that plan. I admit I’m a little bit disappointed but that’s nothing compared to the great feeling of euphoria I am now experiencing. I FEEL COMPLETE. It seems as if I have reached the pinnacle of my manhood. After all, what’s greater than finally having been able to produce an offspring?
When Wendy miscarriaged last year due to a blighted ovum, we were very much devastated. That underdeveloped embryo was supposed to be our first child. But we know that God has better plans for us so instead of sulking over our loss, we decided to just let it be.
So now, a year later, our second try was successful and it brought us a boy. Now, I have someone who will carry my family name for another generation. Someone who I will pass on to my cherished collections of NBA trading cards, action figures and magazines and books. Someone who will share my passion for basketball, boxing and mixed-martial arts. Someone who will now accompany me in playing video games and singing videoke.
Arkin Wade’s arrival is truly an early birthday, wedding anniversary and Christmas present for us. Thank you God!

I just gave birth to my third child (supposedly fourth but I suffered fetal demise last 2007) last September 23. So, I know how that feels but you are right. We need to move on.

Kinda late for me to say this, but what the heck, congratulations Ark! I know the feeling exactly, I have 2 children, now 4 and 10 years old. I also experienced the gloom of a miscarriage.
