Big Fat Roy Nelson is The Ultimate Fighter!Category: MMA
The tenth season of the The Ultimate Fighter has wrapped up!
The Roy “The Big Country” Nelson vs Brendan “The Hybrid” Schaub matchup co-headlined the finale of TUF: Heavyweights which was held at the Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA last December 5, 2009.
Roy Nelson reached the finals after defeating Kimbo Slice, Justin Wren and James McSweeney while Brendan Schaub demolished Demico Rogers, Jon Madsen and Marcus Jones on his way to the last dance.
Nelson might not look like your typical mixed-martial artist due to his fat belly but he proved that looks can be deceiving by delivering a punch that knocked Schaub out cold in the 1st Round.
By doing so, he became the season’s The Ultimate Fighter and earned a six-figure contract to fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) organization. He was even awarded a $25,000 bonus for delivering the Knockout of the Night.
After the knockout, Nelson climbed the top of the Octagon ring and proudly showed the world his belly. That was after he entered the arena to the tune of Weird Al Yankovic’s “Fat”; a parody of the Michael Jackson song “Bad”. How ironic. I like this guy’s humor albeit a little bit arrogant.
In the other co-headliner, Jon Jones was disqualified after he delivered illegal vertical elbow strikes called “12-to-6” to Mark Hamill that rendered Hamill unable to continue after it was temporarily stopped by referee Steve Mazzagatti.
Kimbo Slice also made his first foray into the Octagon a successful one after he defeated Houston Alexander via an unexpected Unanimous Decision with scores of 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27.
