Who would have expected this to be a viral hit?

Thanks to the power of  the Internet, a video posted on YouTube of 62-year-old activist “General” Larry Platt singing his own original song during the Atlanta auditions for the ninth season of American Idol paved the way for his song to become an overnight success.

The song’s title is “Pants on the Ground” and in the days that followed the January 13 airing of American Idol, several celebrities performed the song including Jimmy Fallon impersonating Neil Young on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Brett Favre singing it in the locker room after beating the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs.

Larry Platt is already 62 years old, hence, he was not allowed to continue due to the show’s age limit of 28 years old. However, his performance has already become part of a phenomenon buoyed by the power of the Internet. It reminded me of the Pinoy duo Rin on the Rox.
