Randy “The Natural” Couture and Mark “The Hammer” Coleman were supposed to fight at UFC 17 in 1998. However, an injury to Couture injury forced the cancellation of the bout.

Now, nearly twelve years later, they face off in the main event for UFC 109: Relentless.This will mark the first time that two UFC Hall of Famers meets inside the Octagon. They will also set the record for the oldest combined age (91) of fighters to go head to head in the UFC with Coleman at 45 years of age and Couture at 46.

Randy Couture (17 wins – 10 losses) is a three-time former UFC heavyweight champion and a two-time UFC light-heavyweight champion. He is one of only two UFC fighters to have held a championship title in two different divisions (B.J. Penn is the other) in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, as well as the only five-time champion in UFC history. Couture has competed in 15 title fights, a record. Couture is a member of the UFC Hall of Fame and many consider him to be the most popular fighter in MMA history. Randy is also the oldest man to win a fight in the UFC being 46 years old. His last fight was against Brandon Vera at UFC 105.

Mark Coleman (16 wins – 9 losses) was the UFC 10 and UFC 11 tournament champion and the first UFC heavyweight champion. He is known as the “Godfather of Ground and Pound” as he was one of the first in American MMA to successfully use the strategy that came to be known as ground-and-pound proving that wrestlers can dominate the sports as well. His last fight was against Stephen Bonnar at UFC 100.

The legendary pair first met in a freestyle wrestling match at the 1989 Olympic Festival at Oklahoma State where Coleman won the match by one point.
