Valentine’s Day Poems

Category: News

Tomorrow is February 14 which only means one thing to a lot of lovers out there, it’s Valentine’s Day. It is a day of celebrating love and affection between intimate companions.

Valentine’s Day is named after St.Valentine although the true identity of the man is shrouded in mystery as there are actually three St. Valentine’s – one a priest, one a bishop, and little is known about the third. All were martyrs. According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first ‘valentine’ greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl – who may have been his jailor’s daughter – who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed “From your Valentine”.

Sweet. That’s an expression still in use today.

Traditionally, flowers, chocolates and cards are exchanged between loved ones on Valentine’s Day. Lovers also express their love for each other by sending Valentine cards, most of which contains endearing Valentine poems.
