Two contenders for Brock Lesnar’s UFC Heavyweight Championship will clash in the co-main event for UFC 111: St-Pierre vs Hardy.

As Lesnar is currently out due to health concerns, a UFC Interim Heavyweight Championship matchup is created.

Frank Mir, a veteran of 15 fights inside the Octagon faces Shane “The Engineer” Carwin who is a relative newcomer with only 3 UFC fights to his credit.

However, he is not to be taken lightly as Carwin is undefeated having finished all his fights in the first half of the first round. He is good in the standup game with 6 knockouts to his credit and is equally adept in the ground game with 5 wins by way of submission. Carwin is ranked as the #9 heavyweight fighter in the world by Sherdog.

Mir (13 wins, 4 losses) a two-time former UFC Heavyweight Champion and currently ranked the #3 heavyweight in the world by Sherdog. Along with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, he was one of the coaches for Season 8 of the UFC-produced reality show, The Ultimate Fighter. He is an excellent submission fighter with good Muay Thai skills.

Mir faced Brock Lesnar for the second time at UFC 100 for the UFC Heavyweight Championship title but lost by technical knockout when Herb Dean stopped the fight at 1:48 in the 2nd round due to strikes. In his last fight, he choked out Cheick Kongo at UFC 107.

If Mir wins, a Lesnar vs Mir 3 is in the offing.
