Andre Berto Defends Welterweight Crown, To Face Manny Pacquiao Next?Category: Boxing
WBC welterweight champion Andre “The Beast” Berto was supposed to defend his belt against WBA Welterweight Super Champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley for a WBC, WBA welterweight title unification bout on January 30, 2010 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
However, when an earthquake struck his native homeland Haiti last January 12, the Shane Mosley vs Andre Berto fight was called off.
Shane Mosley understood his plight and will defend his own WBA welterweight crown against Floyd Mayweather on May 1, 2010.
Three months later on April 11, 2010 at Sunrise, Florida, USA, Berto stepped back on the ring and successfully defended his title against challenger and himself a former WBO welterweight champion Carlos “El Indio” Quintana of Puerto Rico winning via 8th Round knockout.
It was his fifth successful title defense. Berto is still undefeated at 26 wins (20 by KO) while Quintana drops to 27 wins and 2 losses.

Part of the proceeds of the fight will benefit the Haitian earthquake relief fund. Berto’s parents were born in Haiti.
With his impressive win, he might get a shot at the high-profile welterweights such as WBO champion Manny Pacquiao and former champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr. or even the resumption of his bout with Shane Mosley. If you want to receive my latest posts, please subscribe to my full feed RSS or have them delivered through email.
