Latin Fury 14 | Antonio Margarito vs Roberto GarciaCategory: Boxing
Former International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Organization Welterweight champion Antonio “Tijuana’s Tornado” Margarito is back.
After falling from disgrace due to an incident in which his corner is alleged to have tampered with his hand wraps prior to his bout with Shane Mosley, which were found by the CSAC to contain sulfur and calcium, which combine with oxygen to form “Plaster of Paris”, Margarito is trying to reclaim his old glory.
In his first fight back after being suspended for a year, he faced fellow Mexican Roberto “La Amenaza” Garcia in the main event for Latin Fury 14.
In 10 rounds of boxing, Antonio Margarito (38-6, 27 KO’s) defeated Roberto Garcia (28-3, 21 KOs) via unanimous decision with the judges giving him scores of 99-89, 100-88 and 99-90. He even knocked Garcia down in the 1st round.
It took place on May 8, 2010, at the La Feria de San Marcos, in Aguascalientes, Mexico under the promotion of Top Rank.
With the win, Margarito has captured the vacant international WBC light middleweight championship.
