Trying to prove that he is a chip off the old block, Jaden Smith makes his film starring debut with a 2010 remake of the 1984 movie of the same name, The Karate Kid.

Jaden is son of Will Smith who just happens to be the only actor in history to have eight consecutive films gross over $100 million in the domestic box office as well as being the only actor to have eight consecutive films in which he starred open at the #1 spot in the domestic box office tally.

Jaden will play the role of the student who learns martial arts which was originally played by Ralph Macchio.

Jackie Chan meanwhile plays the role of the mentor originally played by Pat Morita.

The Karate Kid is directed by Harald Zwart and produced by the Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith (Jaden’s parents) with a budget of $35 million.

PLOT (IMDB):

Twelve-year-old Dre Parker could’ve been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother’s latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying – and the feeling is mutual – but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre’s feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts “the karate kid” on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han, who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.
