A UFC legend falls in Vancouver, Canada.
UFC Hall of Famer and former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell may have fought his last inside the Octagon after a devastating knockout blow from Rich “Ace” Franklin in the main event of UFC 115.
The blow landed on Liddell’s mouth and badly split his lip, almost down to the chin.
After losing 4 of his last 5 fights (3 by way of knockout) and fighting only twice in more than two years, Liddell’s fight with Franklin was supposed to be his last run at prominence.
Seems like Franklin has plans of his own too.
He himself is a former UFC middleweight champion trying to make waves in the light-heavyweight division. However, losing two of his last three fights prevents him from making progress.
At the outset, the two fighters traded punches with neither of them holding back. Around 2 minutes into the 1st Round, Liddell let loose a head kick. Franklin successfully blocks it with his left arm but it broke due to the sheer force of the kick.
No problem.
Although The Iceman got the better of him and is almost on the verge of defeating him, Ace just shrugged it off and waited for his opportunity.
It came with 5 seconds remaining in the clock.
After Liddell missed with a right, Franklin countered with a right hook and Liddell went flat on the ground.
Thus, ended a legendary career.
