Strikeforce / M-1 Global | Werdum Ends The Last Emperor’s ReignCategory: MMA
Heavier by at least 30 lbs. and taller by 5 inches, many thought that Brett Rogers is bound to spoil Fedor Emelianenko’s debut for Strikeforce and will give him his first ever unquestionable defeat last November 7, 2009.
Showing why he is the best mixed martial arts fighter in the planet, Fedor knocked out Rogers in the 2nd round after surviving a Rogers onslaught in the 1st.
In the main event of Strikeforce / M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Werdum on June 26, 2010 at HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, USA, “The Last Emperor” looks to extend his reign when he faces Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum.
Fedor Emelianenko (32 wins, 1 loss, 1 no-contest) has been universally considered the best heavyweight fighter in the world for the last seven years by major publications. He is also at the top or near the top of various pound for pound lists.
He holds the distinction of having held five separate major championships including the RINGS World Heavyweight and King of Kings Championships, the Pride Fighting Championships World Heavyweight and Heavyweight Grand Prix Championships and the World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts Heavyweight Championship.
Check out his highlights video.
Fabricio Werdum (13 wins, 4 losses) is ranked as the #9 heavyweight in the world by Sherdog. He is a submission specialist who holds notable wins over Brandon Vera, Gabriel Gonzaga and Alistair Overeem. He has also defeated Aleksander Emelianenko, Fedor’s brother.
Fedor is too experienced and too smart for Werdum. While Werdum is the larger man, he will not pose any significant threat to the man many consider as the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.
Fedor will breeze through this fight and will submit Werdum in the 2nd Round.
UPDATE: In a shocking upset, Werdum submits Fedor at 1:33 of round 1!
