After the success of 3D movies such as Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and Clash of the Titans, the latest 3D movie to hit the big screen is The Last Airbender.

Based on the first season of the animated television series Avatar: The Last Airbender shown on Nickelodeon, the film adaptation tells the story of Aang, a reluctant hero who prefers adventure over his job as the Avatar.

This will be the first movie in a planned trilogy.

The series from which it was adapted was influenced by Asian art, mythology and various martial arts fighting styles and was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.

The Last Airbender is directed by M. Night Shyamalan and produced by M. Night Shyamalan, Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy with a budget of $150 million.

Air, Water, Earth, Fire. Four nations tied by destiny when the Fire Nation launches a brutal war against the others. A century has passed with no hope in sight to change the path of destruction. Caught between combat and courage, Aang (Noah Ringer) discovers he is the lone Avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. Aang teams with Katara (Nicola Peltz) a waterbender, and her brother, Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), to restore balance to their war-torn world.
