Despicable Me is a computer-animated 3-D movie that is unique in its concept and story.
After all, how many animated films have been made where the lead character is a super villain?
Steve Carell plays Gru, one of the world’s greatest super-villains who is out to steal the moon.
Why and how he is going to do it leaves much to be desired especially when three orphans come into the picture to destroy his plan. It doesn’t help either that his minions look like a bunch of idiots.
The film also stars Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Miranda Cosgrove, and Julie Andrews.
PLOT (Wikipedia):
In a happy suburban neighborhood surrounded by white picket fences and flowering rose bushes sits a black house with a dead lawn. Unbeknownst to the neighbors, hidden deep beneath this home is a vast secret hideout. Surrounded by an army of mischievous little minions, we discover Gru (Steve Carell) planning the biggest heist in the history of the world: he is going to steal the moon.
Gru delights in all things wicked. Armed with his arsenal of shrink rays, freeze rays, and battle-ready vehicles for land and air, he vanquishes all who stand in his way. That is, until the day he encounters the immense will of three little orphaned girls who look at him and see something that no one else has ever seen: a potential dad.
One of the world’s greatest super-villains has just met his greatest challenge: three little girls named Margo, Edith, and Agnes.
Despicable Me is directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud and produced by John Cohen and Janet Healy with a budget of $110 million.

Why haven’t I heard of this movie? And it has apparently also escaped the upcoming-movies-ever-watchful eye of my kid. This promises to be a fun one to watch. I can imagine ‘Grumpy’ dealing with 3 kids, and girls at that. LOL. I’ll check it out soon as I get home.

The movie is a surprise success for Universal Studios. Being their first venture into animation, they didn’t expect that it will bring them in $60.1 million.
