Zydrunas Ilgauskas to Miami Heat!

2010 NBA Free-Agent Signings | “Z” Joins Former Cavs Teammate Lebron in Miami

.....

Seems like “Z” wants a championship ring so bad too.

Less than a week after Lebron James announced his decision to join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to play for the Miami Heat starting this season, Lebron’s former Cavaliers teammate Zydrunas Ilgauskas decided to jump on the bandwagon too to lend his support to the triumvirate.

The player simply known as “Z” was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the 20th pick of the 1996 NBA Draft. He has since played for the team for 14 seasons and became one of its most well-known and well-loved players and has gone through the team’s ups and downs.

After a tumultuous 2009-10 season that saw him supplanted in the starting lineup by Shaquille O’Neal, traded to the Washington Wizards after the All-Star break, then resigned with the team for a one-year contract, Ilgauskas decided to sign a two-year deal with the Miami Heat for the veteran’s minimum of $2.8 million.

Herb Rudoy, his agent says:

“He was with Cleveland for 14 years, and it was a great run. He wants to win a championship in his career. It’s nothing against Cleveland. He loves Cleveland. He’d love to come back there and work for the Cavs after his career is over.”

In Lebron’s twitter account, the King has this tweet:

“Welcome Big Z. Glad u are joining me in South Beach my friend. Also thanks for the encouraging words big fella”

I wonder what Dan Gilbert is thinking now.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas was a two-time NBA All-Star and holds multiple Cleveland Cavaliers team records.

His presence gives the Heat a presence in the middle, albeit old and slow.

I think may chance si Mario Chalmers na maging primitime player din. He will rack up assists dahil tatlo-tatlo ang magiging target nia. That is, kung siya ang hahawak ng bola at magcocall ng mga plays at hindi si Lebron.

Sa tingin ko, hindi enough si Z as a center dahil matanda na. Kailangan pa sila maghanap ng young big man na pwedeng madevelop in the mold of Anderson Varejao or JJ Hickson ng Cavs last year.
