You might think that Erik Morales is already a has-been in the world of boxing but at age 33, he is still pretty young.
His desire to fight Manny Pacquiao for the fourth time and become the first Mexican boxer to win a fourth world title in four weight divisions is still pushing him on.
After a two and a half-year hiatus, Morales came back from retirement and defeated former lightweight titleholder Jose Alfaro at a catch-weight of 142 lbs. just above the junior-welterweight limit last March 27, 2010 in Monterrey, Mexico.
In his next fight, he is pitted against Willie Limond for the vacant WBC Continental Americas Junior Welterweight title belt in an pay-per-view event billed as “Mexican Fiesta”.
It set to take place on September 11, 2010 at the Monumental Plaza de Torosin in Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico.
Mexican Erik “El Terrible” Morales (49 wins-6 losses, 34 KOs) is a former three-division world champion in the junior featherweight, featherweight and junior lightweight divisions. He is considered by many to be one of the finest boxers of his generation. He ranks #49 on ESPN’s 50 Greatest Boxers Of All Time, just a step ahead of Mike Tyson.
He was also the last man to defeat Manny Pacquiao inside the boxing ring winning via Unanimous Decision last March 19, 2005.
Scottish Willie “Hands of Steel” Limond (30 wins-2 losses, 8 KOs). is the current WBU lightweight champion, former IBO Inter-Continental champion, and the former Commonwealth lightweight Champion.
The Erik Morales vs Willie Limond “Mexican Fiesta” main event will be held at the Monumental Plaza de Torosin in Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico on September 11, 2010.
UPDATE: Morales seemed to shake off the ring rust after a few rounds and finally dropped Limond three times with body shots in round six to end it. Time was 2:46.
