Former UFC welterweight champions Matt Hughes and B.J. Penn first met in January 2004 at UFC 46; Penn won that one.
Their second meeting was on September 2006 at UFC 63; Hughes won that one.
To finally settle the score, these two legends of the Octagon will finish their trilogy on November 20, 2010 at UFC 123.
American B.J. “The Prodigy” Penn (15 wins-7 losses, 6 KOs/6 submissions) is an expert Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner becoming the first non-Brazilian to win the black-belt division of the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.Penn is a former UFC Lightweight Champion and UFC Welterweight Champion and was a coach on The Ultimate Fighter 5 reality show. He became only the second fighter to win UFC titles in two different weight classes (the other being Randy Couture).
His last fight was at UFC 118 losing to Frankie Edgar in a rematch and failing to recapture his UFC lightweight championship belt.
American Matt Hughes (45 wins-7 losses, 17 KOs/18 submissions) is one of the most complete MMA fighters ever having shown the ability to finish fights stand-up or on the ground. Only 10 of his fights managed to go the distance and most of them, he won unanimously.
He is a former two-time UFC Welterweight Champion, has put together two separate six-fight winning streaks in the UFC, has defended the welterweight belt a record seven times and and holds the record for most wins in the UFC with 18.
His last fight was at UFC 117 where he submitted Ricardo Almeida in the first round.
UFC 123 will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2010 – 7PM PT / 10PM ET / 3AM BST LIVE from the The Palace of Auburn Hills in the Detroit suburb of Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA.
