True Grit is a movie about retribution. Of seeking vengeance, trying to avenge someone’s wrongdoing.
The first movie that comes to mind with this plot is Road to Perdition starring Tom Hanks. It’s a very beautiful movie about a father and son.
In True Grit, there’s no father as he was murdered and a daughter is trying to find a companion, a father figure to aid her in her quest to avenge her father’s death.
It is the second adaptation of the 1968 novel by Charles Portis, which was previously adapted for film in 1969 starring John Wayne.
