2010-11 NBA Season | Miami Heat vs Cleveland Cavaliers, Er.. Lebron vs Cavs FansCategory: Basketball
The King is coming back to where he first started his reign.
However, a royal treatment is not to be expected.
Amidst all the hoopla, Lebron James made a decision last summer to leave Cleveland for Miami. Immediately, there was an unfavorable response especially among Cleveland citizens as fans burned his jersey while Cavaliers majority owner Dan Gilbert posted an open letter calling James “our former hero”, a coward and a traitor.
To counter the criticisms, Lebron made a commercial for Nike titled “Rise” with him repeatedly asking, “What should I do?”
Today, December 2, James will have his homecoming on national TV as his former team plays host to his new team, the Miami Heat in the first of four meetings this season between the two teams.
For Cavs fans, this is the most awaited game in the 2010-2011 NBA schedule to personally let LeBron know how they feel about his controversial departure. Lebron on the other hand might dread this day. He is coming to a hostile environment after all.
However, to ensure his safety, the NBA management decided to beef up security. Dozens of extra security officers will be on hand, both uniformed and undercover, stationed inside and outside the Quicken Loans Arena. The Miami Heat bench and the tunnel to their dugout will have extra guards.
One question pops up to mind: will Lebron James have the guts to do his pregame throwing-up-chalk-in-the-air ritual?
(UPDATE: He did!)
