Nonito Donaire Knocks Out Fernando Montiel

With a wicked counter left hook, “The Filipino Flash” Nonito Donaire, Jr. sent Mexican Fernando Montiel to the canvas.

With the way he was twitching, you could basically say it was over.

However, the Mexican warrior that he is, Montiel managed to stand up but two more follow-up punches by Donaire was enough for referee Russell Mora to finally put a stop to the fight.

The fight is over at the 2:25 mark of the 2nd Round of their scheduled 12-round bout held last February 19, 2011 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center  in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The knockout was reminiscent of the time when Donaire knocked out Vic Darchinyan in 2007 that was awarded “Knockout of the Year” and “Upset of the Year”.

It was the same exact powerful left hook!

Donaire is now the new WBO and WBC bantamweight champion of the world and is expected to climb up the mythical pound-for-pound list where he is currently at #5.

[UPDATE February 23: Donaire is now number three!]

Compatriot Manny Pacquiao holds the top ranking and replacing the Pacquiao is not far-fetched when the man retires (or fades).
