His trilogy with Matt Hughes now settled with him knocking out the legend in only 21 seconds, B.J. “The Prodigy” Penn is now looking to set his eyes on regaining his UFC Welterweight Championship title he previously held seven years ago.
In the main event of UFC 127, Penn faces number two contender Jon Fitch in a title eliminator match for current champion Georges St-Pierre’s Welterweight title.
UFC 127: Penn vs Fitch will be held at the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia; the second time the UFC has held an event in Sydney, following the sell-out UFC 110 in 2010.
American B.J. Penn (16 wins-7 losses, 7 KOs/6 submissions) is an expert Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner becoming the first non-Brazilian to win the black-belt division of the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Penn is a former UFC Lightweight Champion and UFC Welterweight Champion and was a coach on The Ultimate Fighter 5 reality show. He became only the second fighter to win UFC titles in two different weight classes (the other being Randy Couture).
In his last fight, he won against Matt Hughes via 1st Round knockout at UFC 123 to make a successful comeback at welterweight.
American Jon Fitch (23 wins – 3 losses, 5 KOs/5 submissions) is ranked as the #2 welterweight in the world and #5 pound-for-pound fighter in the world by Sherdog.com. He was in the record books as being tied with Anderson Silva and Royce Gracie for most consecutive wins in the UFC, which was 8. Anderson Silva has since set a new record with 12 consecutive wins.
His last fight was at UFC 117 where he won against Thiago Alves in a rematch.
