FIGHT DETAILS: Miguel Cotto defends the WBA World Light Middleweight title for the first time against Ricardo Mayorga.

Puerto Rican Cotto (35 wins – 2 losses, 28 KOs) is the former WBO junior welterweight champion, WBA and WBO welterweight champion and current WBA super welterweight champion. In his previous fight prior to this, he defeated Yuri Foreman in June 2010 to win his first fight at the light middleweight division.

Nicaraguan Mayorga (29 wins – 8 losses – 1 draw, 23 KOs) is the former WBA/WBC Welterweight champion and the former WBC Junior Middleweight champion.

FIGHT RESULT: Cotto fought with discipline for 11 rounds before unleashing a vicious left hook in the 12th round Saturday night that put an exclamation point on his successful defense of his 154-pound title against the wild-swinging Mayorga.

The hook dropped Mayorga to the canvas and he quit a few seconds later, ending an entertaining bout between two boxers trying to resurrect their careers.
