In his last fight at UFC 117, he won over Roy Nelson via Unanimous Decision.

American Carwin (12 wins – 1 loss, 7 KOs/5 submissions) became the UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion after he knocked out Frank Mir at UFC 111. He had his Heavyweight Championship shot at UFC 116 against then-champion Brock Lesnar, which became his first career loss.

FIGHT RESULT: Dos Santos defeated Carwin via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 30–26).
