Beginning on August 6, 2011 in Tottenham, North London, widespread public disturbances, including looting, arson attacks, burglary, robbery and some rioting, are ongoing in some cities and towns in England.
The events followed the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old man, Mark Duggan, by officers of the Metropolitan Police Service.
In the following days, disturbances occurred in other areas of the city, including Wood Green, Enfield Town, Ponders End and Brixton. On August 8, 2011, rioting and looting occurred in Birmingham, Liverpool, Nottingham, Bristol and Medway.
The riots are still ongoing as of this writing.
