Boxing News: Floyd Mayweather Jr. Knocks Out Victor Ortiz!Category: Boxing
It was one of the most bizarre nights of Floyd Mayweather’s boxing career.
In his September 17 fight with Victor Ortiz, Mayweather was winning the bout through three rounds, dominating with speed and landing good right hands to the head of Ortiz.
In the fourth round however, Ortiz started to take control of the fight pummeling and forcing Mayweather into the ropes. But in an action that sparked a series of bizarre moments, Ortiz appeared to intentionally head butt Mayweather.
Referee Joe Cortez immediately stepped in and gave Ortiz a deduction while the latter apologized profusely to Mayweather.
As Cortez brought them back to the center of the ring and gave the signal for the fight to continue, Ortiz embraced Mayweather. As they broke, Mayweather shot out a left hand and followed it with a right that put Ortiz down in his corner.
Ortiz struggled to get up as referee Joe Cortez called an end to the fight at 2:59 of the fourth round.
“We touched gloves and we were back to fighting and then I threw the left and right hand after the break. In the ring you have to protect yourself at all times.“
Mayweather remained unbeaten in 42 fights, scoring the knockout he had predicted. Ortiz, who lost his 147-pound title, fell to 29-3-2.If you want to receive my latest posts, please subscribe to my full feed RSS or have them delivered through email.
