FIGHT DETAILS: Nonito Donaire moves up in weight to fight Wilfredo Vazquez, Jr. for the vacant WBO super bantamweight title.
FIlipino-American Donaire (27 wins – 1 loss, 18 KOs) is a three-division world champion, and the reigning WBC bantamweight champion. He is also the former undefeated WBO bantamweight, Interim WBA super flyweight, and IBF flyweight champion.
Donaire is currently rated by The Ring as the number four pound-for-pound boxer in the world.
Vazquez, Jr. from Puerto Rico (19 wins – 1 loss, 16 KOs) is the former WBO Super Bantamweight World champion.
FIGHT RESULT: Nonito Donaire took a split decision against Wilfredo Vazquez to win the WBO junior featherweight title. He won 117-110 on two scorecards and lost 115-112.
Vasquez went down in the ninth, staggered by a left uppercut before being dropped by a left overhand. Vasquez rose quickly, smiling as the referee came over to give him a standing eight-count. Donaire also stunned Vazquez in the third with a left-handed uppercut to the right temple.
After the fight, it was discovered that Donaire injured his left hand as he showed his bloody hand wraps to everybody.
