Unlike Christina Aguilera who had an epic fail in last year’s Super Bowl, Kelly Clarkson did it perfectly this time.

Clarkson – winner of the inaugural season of the television series American Idol: The Search for a Superstar in 2002 sang the Star-Spangled Banner without a hitch.

It marks the fourth time in the previous five years that an Idol contestant has performed the anthem (joining Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks).

Backed by a children’s choir, she belted a capable and lyrically-correct version of the song, sporting a Mariah Carey-esque ensemble of a tight black dress, bangs and long, flat-ironed hair.
