Today’s Google Doodle: Gioachino Rossini’s 220th Birthday / Leap DayCategory: News
Normally, February only has 28 days.
But in a leap year, it has 29 days- just like this year. It happens every four years.
February 29 is also known as the leap day.
To celebrate this day, and in honor of Gioachino Rossini who was born 220 years ago, Google has in its home page a doodle of frogs playing the piano, singing and having hair cut.
Well, because they are leapers.
The musicians and the barber are of course a nod to Rossini who was a composer and one of his best-known operas is Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville).
Gioachino Rossini as born on February 29, 1792 in Pesaro, a town on the Adriatic coast of Italy.
He was an Italian composer who wrote 39 operas as well as sacred music, chamber music, songs, and some instrumental and piano pieces. Until his retirement in 1829, Rossini had been the most popular opera composer in history.
