Mayweather vs Cotto: Cinco de MayoCategory: Boxing
Today, May 5, 2012, is also known as Cinco de Mayo for Americans and Mexicans alike.
No, it’s not Mexico’s Independence Day which is actually celebrated on September 16.
The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War.
Boxing fans have been waiting for Cinco de Mayo, as two of the best boxers in the planet collide in an event billed as “Ring Kings”, quite fitting since they have been ruling the boxing ring for years – Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Miguel Cotto.
People will flock the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States to watch Mayweather vs Cotto in a battle for the ages.
Mayweather’s last fight was in September winning over Victor Ortiz via 4th round knockout – in controversial fashion.
At Cinco de Mayo, he moves up in weight to the middleweight division to challenge Miguel Cotto for his WBA Super Welterweight title.
Cotto have already defended the title three times with his last one coming via 9th round knockout of old nemesis, Antonio Margarito.
Will the 6-1 underdog Cotto beat the insurmountable odds stacked against his favor and give Mayweather his first loss?
Or will Mayweather add Cotto to his conquered foes?
Don’t forget to watch Mayweather vs Cotto on fight night, May 5, 2012, LIVE from the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
