Last year, the Boston Celtics became just the second team in history to have four players picked as reserves for the All-Star Game by the coaches with it’s Big Four of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo.

This year, only Pierce is coming back. Garnett wasn’t chosen after 14 consecutive selections.

Tim Duncan, a familiar face won’t be coming back as well. His streak broken at 13.

Chris Bosh also joins his team mates Lebron James and Dwyane Wade who were already selected as starters to complete the Miami Thrice.

Dirk Nowitzki, the 2011 NBA finals MVP was also selected by the coaches even though his average of 17.6 points is his worst since he scored 17.5 per game in the 1999-00 season. Nowitzki thinks he doesn’t deserve the honor.

First-timers include: Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge, Marc Gasol of Memphis, Andre Iguodala of Philadelphia, Indiana’s Roy Hibbert, and Chicago’s Luol Deng.

NBA Commissioner David Stern will select the replacement if any of the starters or reserves will miss the game due to injuries

2011-12 NBA Season | Jeremy Lin, the New York Knicks Savior

Jeremy Lin who?

Before his coming-out party this week, Lin’s claim to fame is that he is the first American player in the NBA to be of Chinese or of Taiwanese descent. That’s opposed to Yao Ming who is purely a Chinese national for those who might ask.

Lin who graduated from Harvard entered the 2010 NBA Draft but went undrafted. If drafted, Lin would have been the first Ivy Leaguer selected by the NBA since Jerome Allen of Pennsylvania in the second round in 1995.

He was eventually signed by the Golden State Warriors but only played sparingly, averaging 2.6 points per game in 9.8 minutes per game. He was then waived on the first day of training camp after the 2011 NBA lockout.

The New York Knicks claimed Lin off waivers on December 27 after an injury to guard Iman Shumpert. He is supposed to be the Knicks’ third-string point guard.

But against the New Jersey Nets on February 4, 2012, Lin came off the bench to score 25 points (nearly doubling his previous career high), and provided 7 assists and 5 rebounds as his team win 99-92. He even outscored his celebrity teammates, Carmelo Anthony (11 points) and Amar’e Stoudemire (17 points), and outdueled Deron Williams (21 points), the Nets’ All-Star point guard.

In the next game, with Anthony suffering from a groin injury and Stoudemire out due to a family tragedy, Lin had his first career start and he delivered torching the Utah Jazz for 28 points and eight assists as the Knicks win, 99-88.

Then last night against the Washington Wizards, Lin made his first NBA dunk – coming off a crossover against John Wall as the Knicks got their third consecutive win, 107-93. Oh yes, he contributed 23 points and a new career-high 10 assists.

The Lin bandwagon is full blast at the game as thousands of fans came to cheer for him, waving Taiwanese flags and sign – including one that read: “Linning and Grinning.”

Jeremy Lin is having a fantasy week. Will this last? There’s no question that he has now earned his spot as the Knicks point guard of the future.

He is now dubbed as the Knicks’ savior.

Head coach Mike D’Antoni said,

“I think it’s for real. The things that are real are his vision, which won’t change; his speed, which won’t change; his knowledge of the game, which won’t change. I think it can only get better.”

He has now also saved D’Antoni’s job.

FIGHT DETAILS: On April 16, 2011, Ortiz defeated Berto via unanimous decision to win the BC Welterweight title in a fight named as The Ring magazine’s “Fight of the Year” – both fighters were knocked down twice each.

Berto bounced back from the loss to Ortiz to stop Jan Zaveck to win the IBF Welterweight title. Wanting to avenge his lone professional loss, Berto vacated his title to pave the way for the rematch with Ortiz.

American Ortiz (29 wins – 3 losses, 22 KOs) is the former WBC welterweight champion. Ortiz lost his welterweight title by controversial knockout to Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 17, 2011.

Berto from Haiti (28 wins – 1 loss, 22 KOs) is the former WBC welterweight champion and former IBF Welterweight champion.

Moments after the New England Patriots lost to the New York Giants at the Super Bowk XLVI, Gisele Bundchen, wife of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had an outburst.

She was pissed off when as she was leaving the Lucas Oil Stadium, a Giants fan heckled at her,

“Eli owns your husband.”

Turning to a friend, she ranted,

“My husband can not f****ing throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can’t believe they dropped the ball so many times.”

She was obviously taking shots at Wes Welker, Aaron Hernandez and other Patriots who choked during the big game.

Her remarks reportedly caused a backlash as she has “broken the code” among the Patriots brotherhood – which is basically, “win as a team, lose as a team.”

With a threee-pointer in the second quarter of a 90-95 loss over the Philadelphia 76ers today, Kobe Bryant has surpassed former teammate Shaquille O’Neal to move into 5th place in the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Shaq who had retired last season made 28,596 points in his 19-year career and is now relegated to 6th.

Picked 13th in the 1996 NBA Draft, Kobe is currently playing in his 16th year.

Kobe said of the achievement,

“All the battles we’ve been in, the playoff battles, the duo that we’ve been able to form. When you (consider) the championships, it makes it a little more significant.”

Shaq and Kobe have a well-publicized ‘feud’ that was fed-on by the media when they were still teammates and was rumored to be the main reason why Shaq left the Lakers.

O’Neal offered his congratulations on Twitter:

“Congrats to Kobe for being the greatest laker ever thanks for making us the greatest laker one two punch ever and congrats on passin me up 2.”

Kobe is also the youngest player in NBA history to reach 28,000 points.

Ahead of him on the all-time list are Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan and Karl Malone. He still has a long way to go though to catch up on record-holder Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 38, 387 points.
