Lebron James Knicks

At Lebron James’ Most Valuable Player award ceremony at the University of Akron’s James A. Rhodes Arena, in his acceptance speech he said,

“Akron, Ohio is my home. Akron, Ohio will always be remembered. Akron, Ohio is my life and I love this city. This is home for me. I love this place to death. Every day I wake up I understand that I’m not just carrying myself but I’m also carrying this city to bigger and better heights. No matter where life may head me, I’m never gone from here.”

Kind of ominous isn’t it?

After the Celtics handed the Cavs their worst home playoff loss in history, 120-88 in Game 5 of their Semifinal round series, Lebron was criticized more for his attitude during and after the game that for his poor performance (scoring only 15 points on 3 of 14 shooting).

Tyreke Evans, 2010 NBA Rookie of the Year

Tyreke Evans is in pretty good company.

After averaging 20.1 points, 5.8 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game, he joined Michael Jordan, Oscar Robertson and Lebron James as the only NBA players in history to average at least 20-5-5 in their rookie seasons.

Even though his team the Sacramento Kings failed to reach the 2010 NBA Playoffs finishing with the 3rd worst record of 25-57, Evans’ consistent play all throughout the season was enough for him to be awarded the NBA’s Rookie of the Year.

Selected by the Sacramento Kings as the 4th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the 6′6″ guard was consistent from the get go.

At the NBA All-Star Weekend, Tyreke Evans won the Rookie/Sophomore Game MVP award after recording 26 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals.

Dwight Howard is the 2010 NBA Defensive Player of the Year

In a not-so surprising announcement, Dwight Howard has been named today the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year for the 2009-10 season.

This is the second straight award for Howard after becoming the first player in NBA history to lead the league in blocked shots (2.78) and rebounds (13.2) in the same season twice – and for two seasons in a row. He also led the NBA in field goal percentage (.612), also the first time in NBA history that anyone has led in all three categories.

Already the youngest player ever with two NBA Defensive POY Awards, it’s scary for opponents to know that he is only 24 and has the chance to rack more similar awards in his career.
