Today, July 26, 2010 at the Session Hall of the House of Representatives at the Batasan Pambansa Complex in Quezon City, Benigno Simeon Cojuangco Aquino III delivered his first ever State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Son of the late former President Corazon Aquino and former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr. Aquino, the man more popularly known as Noynoy Aquino was elected the fifteenth President of the Republic of the Philippines.

2010 Philippine Election Results

The 2010 Philippine Election was marred by violence long before it even started when 57 people were killed (mostly media men) in Maguindanao Province, Mindanao last November 23, 2009.

On May 10, 2010 (election day), 27 casualties and 40 injuries were added to that list as election-related violence in the Philippines increased to 82 incidents. Most of those election-day incidents happened in Mindanao.

It’s time to vote!

Today, May 10, 2010 is the general election in the Philippines where registered Filipino voters go to polling precincts to cast their votes for their national (Presidential, senatorial and congressional) and local (gubernatorial and mayoral) candidates.

The 2010 Philippine election will be administered by the Commission on Elections in compliance with the Republic Act No. 9369, also known as Amended Computerization Act of 2007, “An Act Authorizing The Commission on Elections To Use An Automated Election System In The May 11, 1998 National or Local Elections And In Subsequent National And Local Electoral Exercises”.

It will be the first national computerized election in the history of the Philippines.

The Sixty-One Senatorial Candidates

Along with the 2010 presidential elections, the Philippine Senate election will also be held on May 10, 2010.

This is to elect 12 of the 24 seats in the Senate.

On December 15, 2009, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) released the approved list of Senatorial candidates. On January 14, 2010, the COMELEC approved four more candidates for the Senate, therefore totaling the number of candidates to 61.
