NBA Cards

Welcome To My New Niche Site: Basketball Sports Cards

Category: Trading Cards

After more than a year of posting about my trading cards hobby at this web site, I have decided to create a niche site. A new one dedicated solely to sports cards.

I feel that creating one will allow me to post anything and everything about sports cards, specifically basketball sports cards.

This will also declutter Hakuna Matata! to focus on sports and entertainment news and less of my personal what-nots.

2004-05 UD All-Star Lineup Signature Class Kobe Bryant

Category: Trading Cards

After leading the LA Lakers to a hard-fought seven-game series with the Boston Celtics, Kobe Bryant got his 5th championship ring and second consecutive NBA Finals Most Valuable Player award.

By doing so, Kobe once again proved to detractors that he can carry a team to a crown and that last year was no fluke.

As Shaq’s side kick during the Lakers three-peat  from 2000-2002, Kobe is one of my favorite NBA players.

2004-05 Ultimate Collection #128 Ben Gordon AU RC

Category: Trading Cards

I don’t know if Ben Gordon’s signing with the Detroit Pistons is good or bad for NBA trading card collectors.

His former team, the Chicago Bulls has a fanatical following due to a guy named Michael Jordan. The city is also a big market being one of the largest cities in the USA. On the other hand, Detroit might also be a big market but not as big as Chicago is. However, its basketball team, the Pistons has an equally massive group of “Bad Boys” collectors.

In mid-2008, I traded my 2006-07 Topps Chrome Autographs Refractors Black #57 Dwyane Wade A for this card below, a 2004-05 Ultimate Collection #128 Ben Gordon AU RC.

Category: Trading Cards

Check this out sports card hobbyists.

A collector from Australia is selling his collection of assorted Michael Jordan trading  cards with a Buy It Now price of  US$450,000 at eBay. Wow! That’s around PhP21.6M in Philippine peso. If the price is too much for you, you can make a Best Offer. The seller added this note though: “I am willing to accept offers but please do not provide me with unreasonable or ridiculous offers as they will be auto-declined by EBAY. Please do not ask also for a pricing on an individual card as this is auction is for the entire lot.”

Checking out the cards from the collection, I must say that there are really amazing gems on that lot. These are the ones that captured my fancy.

2004-05 Hoops #131 Kobe Bryant

Fleer did a good job capturing Kobe Bryant’s dunk over Dwight Howard and putting it on a trading card. The Defensive Player of the Year said in an interview that it’s the most embarrassing moment for him in the NBA.

Dwight Howard NBA Rookie Cards Collection

Category: Trading Cards

By winning today 116-114, the Orlando Magic is now leading the Cleveland Cavaliers 3-1 in their best-of-seven NBA Eastern Conference Finals series. It was a hard-fought game as usual. First time NBA MVP Lebron James sent the game into OT by calmly sinking in two free throws. Then in the overtime period, he hit an amazing three-pointer while falling almost out of bounds with 4.6 seconds to go. After Rashard Lewis made 1 free throw and missed another, Lebron dribbled the length of the floor and heaved a 35-footer at the buzzer. But unlike in Game 2 where Lebron James hit the game-winning buzzer beater, the shot failed to hit its target this time.

Rashard Lewis might have saved the game for the Magic but it was my man Dwight Howard who finished strong. He demanded the ball in the overtime period and delivered 10 points via an assortment of dunks and layups. He had 27 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocks (one of which is an amazing block on Lebron). I sure hope Dwight Howard will finally get his first championship ring.
