Shaquille O’Neal announced his intention to retire from playing basketball on twitter last June 1, 2011.
This day, he made it official with a press conference.
That one was filled with laughter from the crowd that gathered as Shaq made light of the moment even though he is now retiring from the sports he dominated for the better part of 19 years.

It’s so sad to see a great player go but it’s about time. The self-proclaimed Superman was only able to play in 37 games in the regular season for the Boston Celtics due to an Achilles injury.
His mind still wants to go at another championship run but his body just can’t take anymore the years of banging inside.
After dominating the NBA for 19 years, Shaquille O’Neal has announced on twitter his retirement.
“We did it. 19 years baby. I want to thank you very much. That’s why I’m telling you first. I’m about to retire. Love you. Talk to you soon.”
