NBA Free-Agent Signings | Rasheed Wallace to Celtics

Category: Basketball

Forward Rasheed Wallace of the Detroit Pistons has finally committed to play for the

Rasheed Wallace and Kevin Garnett

Boston Celtics next season agreeing on a two-year deal that  starts at the mid-level exception (expected to be about $5.6 million to $5.8 million).

In Wallace, the Boston Celtics are hoping to add a versatile player that is tough, a hard-nosed defender and is a scoring threat from anywhere on the court. He is however volatile and hot-headed leading the NBA in technical fouls for many seasons (even setting a record 41 in 2000–2001).

But he has proven that he can be a very valuable addition to a roster  due to his strong desire to win. He was a big factor to the Detroit Pistons winning the 2004 NBA Championship. He is also a big friend of Kevin Garnett which might help him rein in his silly outbursts.

In the current free-agency market, the team managed to net another forward, Hedo Turkoglu of the Orlando Magic to the tune of a a five-year, $53 million deal. It was sudden as Turkuglo reportedly already gave a verbal agreement with the Portland Trailblazers earlier.

Free agent guard Ben Gordon of the Chicago Bulls has reportedly agreed to play for the Detroit Pistons starting this coming NBA season for a five-year, $55 million deal. He has been offered $50 million by his old team but he refused it.

Ben Gordon came into the league in the 2004 NBA Draft as the 3rd pick overall (Dwight Howard was 1st) of the Chicago Bulls after leading the University of Connecticut Huskies to the 2004 NCAA Championship. He immediately made an impact when he became the first rookie in NBA history to be awarded the NBA Sixth Man Award.  He has also led the Bulls in scoring each of the past 4 seasons and became a full-time starter this past season. He is the Bulls’ all-time leader in three point field goals passing Scottie Pippen for that honor in 2008.
