The LA Lakers had won its 16th championship in a grueling seven-game 2010 NBA Finals series against its nemesis the Boston Celtics.
The 2010 NBA Draft was held at the Madison Square Garden in New York City last June 24 with the Washington Wizards selecting John Wall from the University of Kentucky with the number one pick.
“Akron, Ohio is my home. Akron, Ohio will always be remembered. Akron, Ohio is my life and I love this city. This is home for me. I love this place to death. Every day I wake up I understand that I’m not just carrying myself but I’m also carrying this city to bigger and better heights. No matter where life may head me, I’m never gone from here.”
Kind of ominous isn’t it?
After the Celtics handed the Cavs their worst home playoff loss in history, 120-88 in Game 5 of their Semifinal round series, Lebron was criticized more for his attitude during and after the game that for his poor performance (scoring only 15 points on 3 of 14 shooting).
In yesterday’s 104-86 loss to the Boston Celtics on Game 2 of their Semifinal Round series, about the only thing that was exciting for the Cleveland Cavaliers was seeing Lebron James do his signature move, the chase-down block on Tony Allen.
A chase-down block is a block from behind or the side in which a defender chases and then blocks the shot of an offensive player who is running ahead. Usually, the player being blocked assumes that he is going for the shot uncontested and seems destined to score until someone soars and just sends the ball flying out of the hoop.
For the second straight year, Lebron James was recognized as the NBA’s Most Valuable Player.
And for the second straight year, he chose to have the award ceremony in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. Last year, it was held at the St. Vincent-St. Mary High School gym where he played as a highschooler. Today, it was at the University of Akron’s James A. Rhodes Arena.
In the process, “The King” became the 10th player in league history to win consecutive MVP awards joining Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Moses Malone, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan and Steve Nash.
