Pacquiao Faces Margarito Instead of Cotto on November 13!

After negotiations for the Pacquiao vs Mayweather megafight failed again, promoter Bob Arum said today that the Filipino pride will instead fight a disgraced Mexican on November 13, 2010.

Suspended for a year by the California State Athletic Commission in February 2009 after his hand wraps were found to contain a mixture for “Plaster of Paris” prior to his bout with Shane Mosley, former IBF and WBO Welterweight champion Antonio Margarito is designated to fill-in Mayweather’s slot.

Miguel Cotto whom Pacman already gobbled up last November 14, 2009 was the other option for Pacquiao but Arum has this to say,

After being ranked as 57th on last year’s list, Manny Pacquiao is two notches higher on this year’s Forbes Celebrity 100 list at #55.

The Forbes magazine is one of the most famous business magazines in the world and is well-known for its lists. Its Celebrity 100 is its annual list of famous and financially influential celebrities in the field of entertainment and sports.

Talk-show host Oprah Winfrey regains the top position which she held for two consecutive years from 2007-2008 before being knocked-off last year by Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie who dropped to #18.

From the year 2000 to 2009, “Pacman” fought in 27 matches; winning 24, drawing 2 (to Agapito Sánchez and Juan Manuel Marquez) and losing only once (to Erik Morales).

He won six of his record seven world titles in as many division while emerging as the pound-for-pound king.

For that, he was named by the Boxing Writers Association of America as Fighter of the Decade and 2009 Sugar Ray Robinson Fighter of the Year Award.

Edwin Valero has admitted today to killing his 24-year-old wife, Jennifer Carolina Viera in a hotel in Valencia, Carabobo, Venezuela.

Before he left the hotel around dawn on Sunday, Valero allegedly admitted to hotel security that he had murdered his wife.

Police found three stab wounds on Viera’s body and Valero was transferred a local police precinct.

Edwin Valero, nicknamed “El Inca” alluding to an Indian warrior, is a former WBA Super Featherweight Champion and WBC Lightweight Champion.

Quick! Who was the last man to defeat Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao inside the boxing ring?

Yes it’s Mexican legend Erik “El Terrible” Morales.

On March 19, 2005, Morales mustered a tactical fight with Pacquiao for 12 rounds winning via Unanimous Decision. In mockery of the current pound for pound king and WBO welterweight champion, he even brawled and turned into a southpaw stance with Pacquiao in the final round even though he is comfortably ahead on the scorecards. In the end, the Filipino was a sorry sight with blood trickling from above his right eye.

But that was a long time ago. In their next two bouts, Pacquiao exacted his revenge winning via 1oth round TKO on January 22, 2006 and 3rd round TKO on November 18, 2006. Morales has since retired after suffering defeat from the hands of David Diaz on August 4, 2007 and failing to become the first Mexican boxer to win a fourth world title in four weight divisions.
