After years of looking so gloomy and lonesome, Ninoy Aquino is finally smiling.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) unveils today the new design for the Philippine P500 peso bill that features the late Senator being joined by his wife, the late President Cory Aquino who passed away last year.

A third Aquino is in the bill as well with current Philippine President Noynoy Aquino‘s signature prominently displayed.

Cebu Pacific Dancing Flight Attendants

Son of the late former President Corazon Aquino and former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr. Aquino, the man more popularly known as Noynoy Aquino was elected the fifteenth President of the Republic of the Philippines.

Google joins Filipinos all over the world in the 112th Anniversary of Philippine Independence with a special doodle on its homepage today.

The Philippine Declaration of Independence occurred on June 12, 1898 in Cavite II el Viejo (now Kawit), Cavite, Philippines. With the public reading of the Act of the Declaration of Independence, Filipino revolutionary forces under General Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed the sovereignty and independence of the Philippine Islands from the colonial rule of Spain, which had been recently defeated at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War.

2010 Philippine Election Results

The 2010 Philippine Election was marred by violence long before it even started when 57 people were killed (mostly media men) in Maguindanao Province, Mindanao last November 23, 2009.

On May 10, 2010 (election day), 27 casualties and 40 injuries were added to that list as election-related violence in the Philippines increased to 82 incidents. Most of those election-day incidents happened in Mindanao.

It’s time to vote!

Today, May 10, 2010 is the general election in the Philippines where registered Filipino voters go to polling precincts to cast their votes for their national (Presidential, senatorial and congressional) and local (gubernatorial and mayoral) candidates.

The 2010 Philippine election will be administered by the Commission on Elections in compliance with the Republic Act No. 9369, also known as Amended Computerization Act of 2007, “An Act Authorizing The Commission on Elections To Use An Automated Election System In The May 11, 1998 National or Local Elections And In Subsequent National And Local Electoral Exercises”.

It will be the first national computerized election in the history of the Philippines.
