Two contenders to Lyoto Machida’s UFC Light Heavyweight Championship belt will meet in the main event of UFC 108: Evans vs Silva on January 2, 2010 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Evans is the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and lost his belt to Machida at UFC 98 via a stunning knockout. He won the heavyweight division of second season of The Ultimate Fighter and was one of the coaches for last season’s The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights opposite Rampage Jackson.

Silva is currently ranked by both MMAWeekly and MMANews as the #9 light heavyweight fighter in the world, while Sherdog.com ranks Thiago as the #8 best light heavyweight in the world. He has a 14-1 record and that only defeat was against Machida at UFC 94 via knockout.
