UFC 133 was supposed to feature Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones’ first title defense against former Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans. But during his win over Shogun Rua, Jones tore a ligament in his right hand, which was expected to keep him sidelined until late 2011.
Not willing to wait, Evans accepted a fight against Phil Davis. However, as fate would have it, Phil Davis has to pull out due to a knee injury suffered during training.
Thanks for Tito Ortiz, the main event is now set with him filling in for Davis. This is despite Tito fighting as recently as last month when he submitted Ryan Bader at UFC 132.
Evans and Ortiz previously met at UFC 73 where the two competitors fought to a draw as all three judges scored the bout 28–28. Ortiz had won two out of three rounds on all scorecards, but was deducted a point for holding the cage fence to defend against a takedown by Evans.
UFC 133: Evans vs Ortiz 2 featured two former Light Heavyweight Champions in Rashad “Sugar” Evans and Tito “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Ortiz facing in a rematch set four years after their first match at UFC 73 on July 2007.
